1. Greetings from Karen
There's a lot of news this month! I apologize for the length of this newsletter in advance.
First of all, I'd like to say a big "Welcome!" to all the people who found me from the October Wellness Catalog from Avon. Glad to have you aboard!
Well, I hope everyone prospered from the purple cures last month! I can just picture all the new intention for abundance there is in the world as a result of our little sale last month. Remember, we are all a small part of a greater whole, so what you did for yourself, you did for us all. Thanks!
And now that "Receiving" is well built and given plenty of attention and intention, you're ready for the "Giving" time of year! And if your abundance hasn't materialized yet in spite of your feng shui cures, you may want to speed up the process by giving. Yes, abundance WILL come your way if you give. What do you have to give? Your time, prayers, energy, patience, love, giving thoughts, wisdom, money, creativity, blood, food, a craft, a smile? Your abundance is more than just money. Give it and get in the flow.
And I'm going to say this before the hectic season is in full throttle and you run out of time:
Before the year closes, it's good to think back and act upon any unfinished business. See if you can clean up any circumstances that you don't want to take with you to the next year. Here's a little list as food for thought:
Need to forgive anyone? Let me say that again. Need to forgive anyone?
Need to clear up confusion or "withholds" within relationships?
Need to finish a project that you are tired of being on the "to do" list?
Need to move?
Need to resolve any legal issues?
Need to take a self-help course?
Need to rest and clean out any frustration or stress?
Need to set new or more appropriate boundaries?
With firm intention I'm sure you can ready yourself for the new year and all the possibility it holds!
2. Karen is on TV in November
I just taped a "SEX MAKEOVER" show for "Berman and Berman: For Women Only," a woman's show on the Discovery Health Network. On the show, we redo the bedroom of a couple that wants to get "the zing" back in their sex life. This network runs their shows over and over again. My advice is to check out the schedule at the Discovery website to find out when it is airing for you. I think the times they post are Eastern Standard time, so you may have to adjust the time it is playing in your area. Here's their link: Berman and Berman For Women Only
And those of you in the Sacramento/Northern California area, be sure to check out the "Good Day Sacramento Show" on Monday, November 4th - KMAX-TV, as I will be doing an office makeover!
3. Q&A: Feng Shui Stuff That is not Covered in My Book
Question #1: I know where the five elements fall on the bagua. It leaves the four corners "element-less." Is there an element designation for these corners?
Answer #1: I know it is not in my book, but the main element for each of the four corner guas are, Earth in "Skills and Knowledge," Wood in "Prosperity," Earth in "Relationships," and Metal in "Helpful People and Travel".
Question #2: What is the reductive cycle? I read up on it in another book but didn't quite get it.
Answer #2: The reductive cycle is a cycle that is also not mentioned in my book (hey, there's only so much you can put in one little book!) where you can "reduce" an element without totally destroying it. Let's say, for example that you have a totally white room with a lot of metal furnishings. It is also in the creativity/children gua. As much as you love your totally creative life, you can't sleep for all the great ideas coming your way. You find yourself dragging around life from a type of "creative exhaustion." You certainly don't want to destroy your creativity, but you would like to bring in the reins a bit. With the reductive cycle, you would add water element to that metal space.
Basically the reductive cycle uses the element ahead of it in the creative cycle (see page 37 of my book.) If you want to reduce metal, use water. If you want to reduce water, use wood. If you want to reduce wood, use fire. If you want to reduce fire, use earth. If you want to reduce earth, use metal. It's like the metal in that creativity gua above is saying "I'm growing, I'm growing, I'm growing, oops, now I have to use some of myself to create water." It can't become so powerful because it has a job to do. It has to "feed" the water element. (I'm trying with the visual here, I hope it is working!)
Again, if you area trying to reduce wood element somewhere, you would add fire. Then, the wood is "saying", "I'm growing, I'm growing, I'm growing, feed the fire". So it has to take the time to feed the fire and therefore not become "out of control wood". Wow, I hope this is getting across to you out there!
4. A Good Success Story To Learn From
I always get a lot of people telling me how much they love the success stories. So when this one came in while I was writing the newsletter, I bailed on the usual Q&A and thought I'd use it to teach another little feng shui tip:
"Well, last January I had all I could take - I was with a very lazy, narcissistic man who wouldn't work, and I couldn't spend another year with him. I bought your book, did some "trailer park Feng Shui" as I call it (which mostly involves felt and construction paper) as well as moved stuff around. I found pictures of children playing and wrote my wish to have children (and to always be child-like with wonder) on the back of it. I decided to move to Tampa and go to a sperm donor for children, which was (and still is) a major desire for myself. I then moved my weight set (round, metal) into my Love and Relationships corner and asked to be strong enough to attract a mate who admired my strengths and was strong enough to take care of himself. Also put some colored felt there. And I jazzed up my Helpful People corner with some sparkly silvery stuff.
BANG! One week later, on February 2nd, I had thrown out the lazy man. My friend at work (a Helpful Person) introduced me to one of her friends, and we got married this year on August 9th. One of the major attractions between us was our desire to have children. Guess I won't be needing that sperm donor after all! Go figure! :) And he's a STRONG MAN - he picks my 200-pound body up like a rag doll. Guess those weights were in the right place! He is kind and gentle and sees me the way I wish I could see myself - strong, intelligent, loyal... he values the qualities that others did not see in me and he treats me like an equal, not as a subordinate.
Thanks again! My new husband and I are moving this week into our apartment - and I have already charted out our feng shui floor plan, and he is helping me plan where to put things!"
Thanks,
Mickey
Now, some of you who that just read the Q & A's above are thinking "No, don't put metal weights in the earthy relationship gua

7. House Check Tip of the Month
Review the four corner guas for element balance:
Skills and Knowledge = Earth
Prosperity = Wood
Relationships = Earth
Helpful People and Travel = Metal
Give new intention to anything in those guas that may not be working in your favor.
8. Affirmation of the Month
I am working with the energy patterns of life, as they are made known to me.
I am knowing that the world as it appears is a mirage, and that there are other levels of reality that are accessible to humanity.
