Feng shui started for Karen during the recession of 1990. As a landscape architect with
her own design firm, she was seeking work in Hawaii, which at that time, seemed about
the only place in the United States where design work was needed. Unfortunately,
developers were seeking designers who understood feng shui as the owners and banks
building the projects were Asian. Karen quickly sought to learn feng shui in order to have
the necessary qualifications to compete for the work. Feng shui became a natural
compliment to her core design beliefs. She started receiving design work because of her
knowledge in both design and feng shui, but eventually chose to concentrate on advancing the wisdom of feng shui in the West by closing down her design firm, writing her book, and spreading the word of feng shui through her workshops, consultations, media events and web site.
